October 20, 2022 — Food safety, quality and transparency are among the trends driving the baby food market, according to Symrise. More than ever, parents around the world care about how they feed their babies, seeking nutritious foods with safe and reliable ingredients from farm to spoon.
Ahead of a webinar on the topic, the company stresses the importance of good agricultural practices on the end result of infant nutrition and baby food.
“Increasingly, most parents are concerned about the health consequences of poor quality nutrition for their babies. They are very concerned about the pesticides and contaminants that industrial baby foods may contain, and they know that this is linked to agricultural practices,” explains Marie Guillemot, Product Manager Baby Foods, Natural Products – Foods and Beverages, Symrise . FoodIngredientsFirst.
“Also, in connection with good agricultural practices, we notice that the organic trend is important in product launches and has been boosted in the context of COVID-19,” she says.
In mature markets in North America and Europe, Symrise points out that most baby food launches are organic, 62% and 56% respectively.
“In Asia-Pacific, natural organic baby food products are in demand, and the trend is on the rise. Organic can find its place in emerging markets because it is a trusted certification and because some parents are wary of the lack of information of traditional brands in ASIA Pacific Latin America and Middle East Africa », continues Guillemot.
More and more claims are related to food safety and food quality promoted on the packaging. In particular, sustainable agricultural practices are in the spotlight.

clean label
The webinar will also include information on cleaning the label in the baby food market.
For parents, it is essential for parents not to have harmful products and to have a clean label on baby food. Sugar and salt levels in baby foods continue to drop as demand for natural ingredients increases.
This may include reducing sugar, salt, fats and additives in children’s diets to combat the obesity crisis in some parts of the world, such as the United States, where 13% of children aged two to five years old suffer from obesity.
